The HVAC industry is growing! New technicians are needed every day at dozens of shops across the country. Sign up today and learn all that it takes to become an Installer.

This course is designed to develop an individual who has limited or no knowledge or experience in the HVAC industry to prepare them to safely and effectively perform the required tasks of a maintenance and/or service technician in the field. The students will also be required to complete 10 hours of online work through our online portal. Students will have access to our online portal with instructional videos and information for 12 months after the course is completed. ($1,200 value) In addition, we provide an assessment of each student to determine their qualifications against 39 different positions within the HVAC industry. ($300 value).

We have allowed for up to 10 hours of repetitive work done in the lab area depending on each student’s needs.

Students are responsible for bringing all of the necessary tools. Each class will have an associated tool list.

(90 Hours Total Instruction: 80 Hours Hands-On in the Lab + 10 Hours Online)

Day 1: Orientation and Basic Electricity
Upon completion, the student will have been educated on the following:
• Orientation: Dress code, necessary tool inventory, and lab expectations
• Safety: Lab tour, first aid and hazard types
• Understanding basic parallel and series circuits
• Lab Skills: Practice schematics and using a voltmeter

Day 2: Basic Electricity
Upon completion, the student will have been educated on the following:
• Lab Skills: Wire electrical training boards
• Lab skills: Using voltmeters and testing
• Lab skills: Air conditioning components and their relation to wire diagrams
• Lab skills: Check electrical components necessary for proper maintenance

Day 3: Electricity
Upon completion, the student will have been educated on the following:
• Safety review
• Lab skills: Heat pump wiring and diagrams
• Lab skills: Compressor, capacitor, and motor testing

Day 4: Refrigerant and Charging
Upon completion, the student will have been educated on the following:
• Types of refrigerant and refrigerant safety
• How refrigerants work
• Air conditioning cycle
• Lab skills: Using a manifold and checking mechanical operation

Day 5: Charging
Upon completion, the student will have been educated on the following:
• Lab skills: Understanding when a system is charged correctly
• Lab skills: Basic troubleshooting skills
• Lab skills: Basic repairs and part replacement

Day 6: Charging and Maintenance
Upon completion, the student will have been educated on the following:
• Lab skills: Cleaning and performing routine maintenance on Air Conditioners
• Lab Skills: How to perform Air Conditioner and Heat Pump clean and checks

Day 7: Heat Pumps and Refrigerant Flow
Upon completion, the student will have been educated on the following:
• Understanding heat pump operation
• Lab skills: Testing reversing valves
• Lab skills: Using manifolds on heat pumps and diagnosis

Day 8: Refrigerant Recovery & Evacuation and Brazing
Upon completion, the student will have been educated on the following:
• Lecture: Procedure & Safety Briefing
• Lab skills: Removing, evacuation and adding refrigerant
• Lab skills: Practical Brazing skills

Day 9: Skills & Testing
Upon completion, the student will have been educated on the following:• Lecture: Troubleshooting techniques
• Lab Skills: Troubleshooting with virtual equipment
• Testing: Final Examination, written and hands-on skill testing

Day 10: Repetition Based Learning
• Student Evaluation: Students will be evaluated on lessons and skills learned over the course and the instructor will determine what areas the students need repetition. Students will be given instruction on individual performance to improve areas that may need additional instruction. The lessons could be based on any of the lessons taught previously throughout the course.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Students wishing to cancel must do so by email or personal phone contact at least one week (168 hours) prior to the start time of a class to receive a refund. There will be no refunds for cancellations within one week of the start of the class or if the student fails to show up. Should there be a need for The National Trade Academy to cancel or reschedule an event due to an emergency (extreme weather conditions or otherwise) all attendees will be notified as soon as possible and will have an option for a refund or be rescheduled for an event at a later date.
